Archaeology

Dinosaur bones, T-rex skeleton pieces or real gemstones sit hidden inside a plaster or mineral block. Working with a small hammer, a chisel and a brush, the child uncovers them a little at a time. The work does not reward rushing: every stroke has to be careful, so these kits train patience, focus and fine motor control at once.

Once the find is free, the best part begins — assembling the bones into a skeleton, or sorting the stones by type. That is how a child comes to understand what paleontologists and geologists actually do: careful excavation first, then studying and classifying what came out.
